THE REVIEW OF STAKEHOLDERS DISCOURSE ON DAY OLD CHICK VALUE CHAIN IN OYO STATE
The Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF) engaged with stakeholders across the Day Old Chick (DOC) value chain in Oyo State. The interactive and insightful discourse was a physical meeting held on 24th August, 2022 at the Ibadan Business School, Adamawa hall, Bodija, Ibadan. The meeting had in attendance 24 stakeholders across the various DOC value chain and other staff members of PiLAF.
The meeting commenced by 9.30am (WAT) with introduction by participants, followed by an opening remark from Prof. Adegbenga Adekoya, the principal investigator of PiLAF. Prof. Adegbenga Adekoya briefed participants on the mission and core objectives of PiLAF which focuses on promoting better policies in the Nigerian agricultural sector as well as capacity building through trainings.
The first session of the discourse facilitated by Dr. Olushola Fadairo centered on a SWOT analysis which enabled participants to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks associated with the DOC value chain in Oyo State.
The second session of the discourse was facilitated by Dr. Olushola Fadairo and Dr. Oluwaseun Adeleke aimed at analyzing regulations guiding the DOCs and also understanding the administration and management of key activities of stakeholders in the value chain. Through a focused group discussion, participants expressed their views on the management, operating and marketing activities of DOCs in Oyo state and the necessary regulatory bodies responsible for providing guidelines and enforcement.
The discourse was quite interactive and engaging as participants contributed richly from their experience and expertise gathered over the years. Information obtained from the discourse will be useful to propose and promote better policies that drive collaboration among the various actors and also promote favorable environments to carry out business activities in the various value chains.
