THE REVIEW OF OYO STATE AGRICULTURAL STAKEHOLDERS MEETING

The program titled, Oyo State Agricultural Stakeholders Meeting, held on the 29th November, 2022 at the Seminar Room of the International Conference Center of University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria had in attendance stakeholders from the mainstream to the downstream value chain of the agribusiness in the state. The programme was geared towards bringing different stakeholders in the agricultural sector to discuss issues relating to fabrication.

It is not an uncommon experience in the nation to see poor patronage of locally fabricated machines. This is due to several factors and it is expedient that these issues be critically and holistically addressed in order to achieve a win-win situation for all. For instance, there tends to be a gap between what the farmers need and what the fabricators are producing. The meeting was therefore aimed to foster a network that can help address the gaps.

Dr. Debo Akande, the Director General of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), who also doubles as the Head of Agribusiness and Mechanization at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in his words said that “the most important thing that the state is doing currently is providing enabling environment for our fabricators in the state to thrive, we are very concerned about providing the needed resources for the local fabricators for us to better our own equipments”.

Several other personnels spoke at the programme and it included the Prof. Adegbenga Adekoya, Principal Investigator at PiLAF UI, Engr. Kolapo John, Director of Engineering Services, Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development, Oyo State, Prof. EmilOlorun Ambrose Aiyelari , Soil Resources Management Department, University of Ibadan and lots more.

The programme ended with a visit to Niji Engineering Services at Apata Ibadan. Participants were taken through the activities in the firm and were equally given opportunity to ask questions.

The stakeholders engagement meeting was indeed a successful one as many of the participants commended PiLAF for a programme of such magnitude.
