On Friday, 5th July 2024, the Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF) team set out on a trip to Niji Farms in Ilero, Oyo State, Nigeria, to learn and observe best practices in agricultural fabrication and processing. This visit was aimed at gaining practical insights that will be instrumental in developing a comprehensive policy document for agricultural equipment fabricators in Oyo State and to serve as a learning platform for fabricators and other members of the team.

During the visit, the PiLAF team had the opportunity to see firsthand the advanced agricultural practices and equipment utilized by Niji Farms. The insights gleaned from this experience are invaluable for understanding the practical challenges and opportunities faced by fabricators. This knowledge will play a crucial role in shaping policies that effectively address the needs of agricultural equipment fabricators, promoting innovation and sustainability in the sector.
Niji Farms is part of the Niji Group, a leading player in the agribusiness sector renowned for its contributions to agricultural development and innovation. The Niji Group, under the leadership of MD/CEO Mr. Kola Adeniji, has been at the forefront of advancing agribusiness through innovative solutions and sustainable practices. His expertise and involvement in this innovative agribusiness and fabrication pathway underscores the basis for Mr. Kola Adeniji’s selection as a member of the steering committee set up by PiLAF to work on the Agricultural Equipment Fabrication policy document.

The group’s extensive work in agribusiness not only includes farming, but also the fabrication of agricultural equipment and the processing of agricultural products. Their integrated approach provides a model for sustainable agricultural practices that can be replicated and scaled.
By integrating the insights gained from the trip to Niji Farms, PiLAF will be able to include the agribusiness dimension in designing policies that promote sustainable growth and enhance the productivity of the agricultural sector in Oyo State. The collaboration aims to create a supportive environment for fabricators, ensuring they have access to the resources, technology, and skilled labor needed to thrive.
