Senior Research Associate
Olutosin Ademola Otekunrin is an Agricultural Economist (academic researcher) from Nigeria. He holds a B. Agric. in Agricultural Economics from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria. He obtained his M.Sc and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Education from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) respectively. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from FUNAAB, Nigeria. Dr. Otekunrin is currently a Senior Research Associate at Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF), University of Ibadan, Nigeria. His field of interest includes Food Security and Nutrition, Agribusiness, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Education, and Farm Management. Dr. Otekunrin served a reviewer for over 100 journals and has reviewed over 900 manuscripts. He is serving as reviewer for top journals such as Frontiers, Elsevier, PLOS ONE, Sage Open, Emerald, and MDPI among others. Dr. Otekunrin currently serving as academic Editor for PLOS ONE, Review Editor/Associate Editor for Frontiers in Public Health, EBM for BMC Nutrition, BMC Public Health, and Section Editor for BMC HPN. Dr. Otekunrin is a certified Web of Science (WoS) Academy graduate and mentor, and currently serves as handling editor of more than 100 manuscripts. He’s a member of Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists (NAAE), and a member of Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition (FSN Forum).
Research / Administrative Assistant
Peace Ikharelu Aburime is a policy researcher and Assistant Administrative Manager at the Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF), University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Her research interests include food systems, water security, agricultural extension, climate change, food security, rural development, and development policy. Peace leads the DEWSClim Innovators Team, winners of the Climate Risk Research Challenge – Nigeria 2023. She and her team developed DEWSClim, a mobile-based dynamic early warning system designed to improve climate resilience among maize farmers across Nigeria’s agroecological zones. Peace holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) with Distinction in Agricultural Extension and Management from the Federal College of Forestry, Jericho, Ibadan, a B.Agric (First class honors), and an M.Sc. (Distinction) in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development from the University of Ibadan, where she is currently pursuing a PhD. She is proficient in R, STATA, SPSS, Power BI, and Canva. She enjoys singing, cooking, and playing basketball.
Research Assistant
Mercy Adediran is a graduate researcher at PiLAF, currently pursuing a PhD in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development at the University of Ibadan. She holds a B. Agric. Tech in Agricultural Extension and Communication Technology from FUTA and an MSc in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development from University of Ibadan. Her expertise covers policy development and analysis, proposal writing, logframe development, stakeholder engagement, and both qualitative and quantitative research. She specialises in sustainable agri-food systems, rural development, food security, energy poverty, and climate change adaptation. She has worked directly with farming communities, facilitating focus group discussions, collecting and analyzing data using tools like SurveyCTO, KoboCollect, R, and Power BI, and co-authoring peer-reviewed publications and cross-country reports. Mercy coordinates PiLAF's Brown Bag Webinar Series, which connects global audiences to discuss pressing issues in agriculture, food security, and policy. In her free time, Mercy enjoys travelling, sewing, and engaging in creative activities.
Research Assistant
Peace Akuwa is a doctoral student in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Ibadan, where she also earned her Master’s degree. She holds a BSc in Agricultural Economics from Delta State University. Peace is a policy design expert and her research centers on food and nutrition security, with a particular focus on child nutrition. She is also interested in resilience studies, value chain analysis, and CGE modeling. She is an excellent data analyst, proficient in using Stata, Excel, and R. A strong advocate for quality education and equity, Peace believes that one of the best gifts you can give a child is a solid education that extends beyond academic walls. She is deeply passionate about teaching.
Data Analyst / Researcher
Oyewale Oyegoke is a data analyst and researcher at PILAF with over ten years of experience in using various statistical and econometric software, including Stata, EViews, TORA, Frontier version 4.1, and SPSS. He is a graduate of Agricultural Economics. He obtained his master's degree from the premier university, University of Ibadan (UI), while his first degree is from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). His research interests hinge on Welfare and Developmental Economics, particularly in areas such as food security, poverty, resilience, value chains, and gender-related issues among both small-scale and emerging farmers. His hobbies include, but are not limited to analysing political and economic issues, reading, writing, watching soccer, and travelling.
Afolabi Olufunke is a PhD student in the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development at the University of Ibadan, with a strong academic grounding in Rural Sociology and development-oriented research. Her interests span development studies, sustainable agriculture, gender and youth inclusion in agriculture, and the broader dynamics that shape rural livelihoods. Over the years, She has developed substantial experience in coordinating field research, supervising data collection teams, and engaging diverse community groups across Southwest Nigeria. Her role in PiLAF involves coordinating surveys on energy use among transport operators and produce haulage drivers across major parks and markets in Ibadan, Oyo State, an experience that has strengthened her ability to manage large-scale field operations and ensure high-quality, ethical data collection. In addition, she has a developing interest in data analysis and econometrics, with a focus on applying quantitative tools to understand agricultural challenges and inform policy solutions. She's passionate about evidence-based development and committed to contributing to impactful research that improves agricultural systems and enhances rural well-being.
Research Assistant
Khadijat Olawole is a Research Assistant at the Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF). She holds a BSc in Agricultural Science Education from the University of Ilorin and an MSc in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development from the University of Ibadan. She specializes in data management, analysis, and technical reporting, and is proficient in SPSS, R, and Stata. Khadijat has experience handling large agricultural and socio-economic datasets and has participated in field surveys for various research and development projects. She is a member of the Rural Sociological Association of Nigeria (RuSAN). Her research interests include agricultural policy, climate change adaptation, rural livelihoods, and sustainable agriculture, with a focus on producing evidence that strengthens food systems and informs decision-making.

Ayomide Daniel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta. She is a research assistant at PiLAF, where she contributes to research and policy projects through data sourcing, management, and writing. Her research interests include climate change and fertilizer use, integrating Chemistry with Agriculture and examining their impacts on humans and the environment. Ayomide is an excellent public speaker with expertise in project coordination and management, content and academic writing, as well as proficiency in productivity tools such as Trello, Jira, Airtable, and Canva.
Media Consultant
Oluwaseyitan Olaibi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Library, Archival and Information Studies (BLIS) and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Publishing and Copyright Studies at the University of Ibadan. Passionate about the power of media to inform and influence, he is committed to crafting compelling narratives that inspire action and deliver measurable impact. He is a Communications Specialist who helps organizations build visibility and engage their audiences through strategic storytelling and digital communication. He is currently the Media Consultant at the Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF), University of Ibadan, where he develops and manages communication campaigns, oversees media relations, and ensures effective dissemination of the Lab’s research and policy initiatives. His expertise cuts across digital content creation, social media strategy, corporate communications, content writing, publication management, and brand positioning. He has led successful communication efforts for high-level programs and research-driven events, helping organizations achieve improved visibility and stakeholder engagement.
