We are in the era of data revolution. Data is everywhere, and they come in different forms and shapes. The use of data for research, decision/policy making and others has continued to grow. This development has posed some problems. The needed skills for handling and processing data still need to be improved, particularly among students and researchers.
One of the benefits of training is that it helps to unlock potentials and it equally creates atmosphere of possibility. Herculean tasks as well as things considered impossible bows in the face of appropriate training and skills. Thus, people are empowered when they are given the right training. This is the experience at the just concluded STATA training organized by Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF), University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

It was an insightful and educative moment at the last Oyo State Agricultural Equipment Fabricators’ Workshop organized by the Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF) and the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture, IITA, Ibadan. The workshop took place on 17th May, 2022 at the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture, IITA, Ibadan.
PiLAF’s Brown Bag Series is an effort of the Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF) in bridging the gap between researchers and policy makers. It is expected to be a platform that will bring together various actors along the agricultural food system to discuss topical issues affecting agricultural development in Nigeria as well as the sub-region. The obvious disconnect between the town and the gown has overtime led to poor policy formulation and implementation, creating evident problems in the agricultural policy design process, from the formulation to implementation as well as evaluation.
